Fruit-theme slots are clearly making a grand comeback and NetEnt is definitely not the only provider that’s re-inventing the theme, although their Double Stacks slot does make it difficult for other developers to top, or even follow.
Fans of the traditional slot symbols will be quite pleased with the design, especially since the retro theme does not come with the deficiency of bonus features. Together with the Cherry, Lemon, Watermelon, and Plum symbols, Double Stacks slot also features the Diamond, 7, Bar, and Bell icons as the high-value symbols, which will produce massive winnings when stacked. The special set of symbols are the Star Wild and the Disco Ball Scatter that unlocks the bonus rounds.
How to Play
Double Stacks is played on 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 paylines, with 10 betting levels selected manually or through the Max Bet option. The coin value is adjusted through the up and down arrows to the left; using the Max Bet option to increase the level of your bet will not change the coin size, so if you would like to press the bets, make sure that the coins size is increased as well. Auto Play tab is to the left and up to 1000 auto spins can be triggered using this feature. The advanced settings menu enables the player to select the criteria that will stop the Auto Play mode and you can return to the regular game mode after a win, or a specified cash increase/decrease.
Double Stacks Features
In most cases, the developers opt-out from introducing bonus features in slots that follow more traditional patterns and fruit-themed games are less likely to offer Free Spins or any type of special rounds. Fortunately, Double Stacks is an exception.
Free Spins – additional rounds are unlocked by the Disco Ball Scatter and the number of spins will depend on the number of Scatter forming a combination – 3 Scatters will trigger 5 extra rounds, 4 Scatters award 15 rounds, and 5 Scatters will initiate 30 bonus spins. The session is re-triggered when more Disco Ball icons land on the reels during the feature.
Double Stacks – the high-value symbols can “multiply” or become stacked when the same symbols cover the entire reel. The icon will then double up, generating higher payouts, or even Super Mega Win payouts if all of the reels are covered with the same stacked symbol.
While there are players who are fed up with the fruit-machine layouts, NetEnt seems to be on the right track of restoring one’s faith in traditional themes. The 96.1% RTP and medium volatility will work to the players’ advantage, providing a stable gameplay and the stacked symbols will add some much-needed excitement to the familiar and often exploited fruit theme.
